The Claremont Journal of Mormon Studies
Submission Guidelines
With high quality articles and reviews, the journal explores Mormon studies through the work of qualified graduate students of a wide range of fields and disciplines pursuing Mormon studies research. The journal particularly encourages students to submit Mormon studies-related papers completed during the course of class work in graduate school.
We invite submissions of quality essays and book reviews for publication. Only completed papers and reviews will be considered. Abstracts of papers will not be considered. Submissions should follow the Chicago Manual of Style and be no less than 4000 words and no more than 11,000 words in length, not including endnotes. Submissions published in the Claremont Journal of Mormon Studies, including letters to the editor and brief notes, are covered by our Publication Policy. Please send submissions and/or inquiries to journal@claremontmormonstudies.org.
The Journal is published semi-annually in April and September and accepts submissions on a rolling basis.
File Format & Text Formatting
Authors may submit papers for review using email attachments. Files should be in either rich text (RTF) or Word document (DOC) formats. Please keep in mind the following guidelines for how to format the text prior to submission:
- Insert only a single space after all punctuation. (Inserting two spaces after a period was common when using a typewriter, but with modern typesetting the additional space is unnecessary.)
- Use proper "em" dashes, "en" dashes, and hyphens. Do not use two hyphens for an em-dash, or a single hyphen where an en-dash is required. Use en-dashes, not hyphens, for all ranges, for example page ranges in citations.
- Offset all ellipses with a single space, and use the ellipsis character, not three periods. Do not offset a terminal ellipsis (an ellipsis occurring at the end of a sentence) with single spaces.
- Observe Chicago Style in citations and prose. A bibliography or works cited page is not required.
- Use footnotes for citations.
